Images of “fire tornadoes” in the heart of the San Diego fires.

San Diego County is on fire…at least nine blazes, some completely out of control. Over 10,000 acres have been lost, 30+ homes destroyed and thousands evacuated. A major firefighting offensive sought to douse wildfires with the worst being a nearly uncontrollable blaze in San Marcos. Schools are closed, businesses shut down, graduations cancelled and residents evacuated.

Temperatures are in the high 90’s with single digit humidity and 30 mph winds. A horrible combination and coupled with a protracted drought in California makes for a grim situation. Gov. Brown has declare a state of emergency and the National Guard has been deployed.
