Contagion follows the rapid progress of a lethal airborne virus that kills within days. As the fast-moving pandemic grows, the worldwide medical community races to find a cure and control the panic that spreads faster than the virus itself. As the virus spreads around the world, ordinary people struggle to survive in a society coming apart. Sounds like fun doesn’t it!?!?!?!?

The film is scheduled to be commercially released on September 9, 2011. Though the film had a production budget of $60 million, the NYT reported, “[Box office] success means getting the audience to worry a little more at an already worrisome time.” While the film is not being explicitly marketed as a horror film, it attracted the attention of horror fans. While Warner Brothers is including a “scare factor” in its marketing with taglines such as “Don’t touch anyone”, one of its backers launched a social action campaign with instructions on how to deal with a pandemic, such as stockpiling bottled water. It will also advertise “virus hunters” to viewers.
Just think pandemic on steroids…enjoy!
