Happy 25th Anniversary! October 17 is the 25th Anniversary of the Loma Prieta Earthquake – it shook the San Francisco Bay Area at 5:04 PM of the third game of the World Series. Luckily, the San Francisco Giants were playing the Oakland A’s and most people were watching the game. The 6.9 quake was responsible for 63 deaths and 3,757 injuries in the affected areas. Damage was heavy in Santa Cruz County and there were major impacts farther north in San Francisco and Oakland including the collapse of the Nimitz Freeway and a section of the upper deck of old Bay Bridge falling onto the lower deck.
With the SF Giants now in the World Series, I wonder, is this the sign of a quake to come? What have you done to prepare for the next big one??
