Just like the Got Milk ad campaign - Got Flu really works! ;-)

Flu season is coming.  Flu vaccines are already available and in plenty supply.  Should you get one?  Should you encourage employees in your company to be vaccinated?  Does it make a difference?  A new study in a nursing home revealed that flu vaccinations can make a difference in the workplace.

Planning a Flu Shot Clinic at your workplace? No?!? Why not?!?!?! Bring heatlh to your office...sponsor a flu vaccination clinic this fall.

Increased vaccination coverage among direct-care employees in long-term care facilities led to fewer reported influenza outbreaks, according to new findings published in Infection Control and Hospital Epidemiology.  The CDC has long recommended for health care personnel in nursing homes to get vaccinated against the flu.  There was no hard data about the efficacy of such an action.  This new study revealed that vaccinations protect residents of nursing homes with the net recommendation that health care personnel should be vaccinated annually.

During the 2006 to 2008 influenza seasons 75 long-term care facilities affiliated with the New Mexico Department of Health were studied. Influenza vaccination coverage that exceeded 60% across facilities reported no outbreaks.

Pretty impressive…plan to get your flu shot early this fall.
