A horrifying drama is being played out in the news. Militants affiliated with the Islamic State group posted an online warning that the “countdown has begun” for the extremists to kill the Japanese hostages 47-year-old Kenji Goto and 42-year-old Haruna Yukawa.
The extremists gave Prime Minister Shinzo Abe 72 hours to pay the ransom, and the deadline expired Friday.
The posting, which appeared on a forum popular among Islamic State militants and sympathizers, did not show any images of the hostages, who are believed to be held somewhere in Syria.
I have heard on news channels over the past several days that ISIS is running out of money – likely due to the dramatic fall in oil prices and the high cost of terrorizing the world! Some are forecasting that kidnaps will likely increase as a revenue stream.
If these men were your employees, what would your company do? This is an interesting KNR (kidnapping and ransom) scenario to play out with your executives.
