Ransomware attack targets another So. Calif. healthcare institution…this time the Los Angeles County health department

Earlier this month, Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center paid a $17,000 ransom in bitcoin to a hacker who seized control of the hospital’s computer systems.

Lucky for them, the new attack on the Los Angeles County health department was on a smaller scale. The agency identified remnants of a ransomware thread on five work computers Wednesday…the good news is that operations were not been affected.

The agency said that the county has not paid a ransom and will not do so. The attack was the first of its kind targeting the health services department, he said.

Ransomware attacks are another great narrative for a cyber exercise.  What would your company do?
