Many Americans have been watching with growing anxiety as house after house is lost to fast moving flames in Colorado…and we can’t help but think ourselves…what would I take from my house if I was told I had ten minutes to get out?

This is an incredibly valuable exercise to do.  We wrote about this very issue on this blog on February 20, 2011.  I heard from many people that it really made them think.  But the question is…did you do anything?  That 2011 blog can be found at

This is your chance.  Learn from those poor folks in Colorado.  There is a fabulous short video on YouTube called “The Ten Minute Challenge.”

The key messages of the film:
1. Develop a plan – what you take and who packs what.
2. Prepack emergency supplies, records and important family documents and pictures.
3. Prepare a home inventory of all of your possessions. A video or photos to document the inventory is also helpful.
4. Have an emergency contact who is out of the area who can serve as a communication hub for you.

Spend the Fourth of July holiday by taking the challenge!  Protect you and your family now.  You won’t regret it. Let me know how you do!
