The British Medical Journal (BMJ) has now-retracted a British study that linked autism to childhood vaccines calling it “an elaborate fraud that has done long-lasting damage to public health.” An investigation just published by the BMJ concluded that the study’s author, Dr. Andrew Wakefield, misrepresented or altered the medical histories of all 12 of the patients whose cases formed the basis of the 1998 study — and that there was “no doubt” Wakefield was responsible. The British Medical Journal (BMJ 2010;340:c1279) just published the results of a study of women who were more than 20 weeks pregnant and suffering from 2009 H1N1 influenza in Australia and New Zealand…the results were a bit sobering.
